You name it and I've been it: the cheerleader, the devil, the angel, the schoolgirl, the nurse. From Florence Nightingale to the devil's temptress, I've been it all. And I'm tired of opening up the old college trunk in my closet and recycling outdated costumes from ten years ago. I want something new, something fresh.
Burlesque Halloween costumes have recently popped up on my radar and I'm enamored. A friend of mine introduced me to the sexy world of burlesque this past summer. The sultry aura captivated me immediately. Imagine a small dark stage. The dim lights go down. Swanky music begins to play as shadows creep out to dance up the walls. This is the world of burlesque.
Then, as I sat there holding my breath, my relatively shy friend with a body type like mine (slightly overweight with an uncanny resemblance to a pear) dressed in a sexy 1950's striptease outfit appeared onstage and began to dance. It was so strange, almost otherworldly. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. My shy friend had been transformed into a sexy, confident woman proud to celebrate her body. I was so mesmerized by her onstage liberation that I am considering joining her burlesque troupe this winter!
But I couldn't wait! So I went online and bought two burlesque Halloween costumes online. I can't wait to try them on and start practicing sultry dance moves in front of the mirror. I just hope I don't have to drink too much to get into character! All my friends won't know what hit them when they see their shy, bookwormish friend become the life of the party.
