Police Respond to Possible Unarmed Home Invasion

The following is an excerpt from the Salem Police Department's Sunday and Monday logs. For more information on Sunday and Monday arrests check back later this morning.
Sunday
  • Sunday at 1 p.m., police said an Allen Street caller reported debit card fraud.
  • At 1:30 p.m. Sunday, police said it was reported a dog was stuck in a swimming pool on Beaver Street. Police said the officer responded and the dog was fine.
  • Kids on motorized scooters were reported at North and Granite streets 2:26 p.m. Sunday. Police said they were unable to locate the kids when they arrived.
  • Loud scooters driving up and down the street were reported on Granite Street at 4:42 p.m. Sunday. Police said all was quiet when they arrived. 
  • Abandoned gold merchandise was reported on Boston Street at 4:45 p.m. Sunday. When the officer arrived, police said he observed a vehicle with no license plates, which had been reported stolen. It was towed from the area and brought to the police station for processing.
  • Police said a male party was threatened with a knife during a road rage incident on Washington Street at 4:59 p.m Sunday. 
  • A lost wallet was reported on Highland Avenue at 5:45 p.m. Sunday.
  • A possible burglary to a business was reported on Jefferson Avenue at 5:52 p.m. Sunday. Police said the owner of a business saw a male party on camera in the rear of his property. When he went to the rear of the building he saw the man carrying tools from a shed. The reporting party said he yelled at the man who said "I'm out of here," before climbing an eight-foot tall chain link fence, which is topped with barbed wire.
  • Yelling and screaming was reported on Curtis Street at 8:31 p.m. Sunday.
  • Police said a suspicious party was reportedly digging in the bushes at Washington Sq. East and Pleasant Street at 8:26 p.m. Sunday. Police said when they arrived, a female party told them she used to live in the building and she has permission from the owner to move the plants to the neighboring building where she currently lives. Police said the old building was in a fire and the former resident wanted to get the plants before demolition begins.
  • At 11:14 p.m Sunday, police said a baby stroller was stolen from Hodges Court.
Monday
  • Monday at 1:17 a.m., police said a caller who had been a customer at Dunkin' Donuts reported a suspicious male party had approached him in the parking lot and asked if he wanted to buy a package of razors. The male said he didn't want to buy any and police said the man walked away. Police said the man walked toward Walgreens and was located on Harbor Street where he said he was homeless and needed money. He told police he was trying to sell them to make money.
  • Police received a call from Derby and Daniels streets about contractors working on a house too early at 7:21 a.m. Monday. Police said the parties were advised to wait to start working until 8 a.m. Monday.
  • A loose pitbull was reported on Orne Street at 8:55 a.m. Monday.
  • Police said a pedestrian incurred minor injuries at the intersection of Essex and Washington streets when he was struck by a motor vehicle at 9:19 a.m. Monday.
  • A possible unarmed home invasion was reported on Lafayette Street at 10:22 a.m. Monday. Police said the caller said a man he knows only by  his first name stole his wallet and cell phone from his apartment. Police said the suspect entered through the back door, allegedly held the resident down on the couch "while he took the cell phone and removed his wallet from his pants pocket and fled." Police said the caller reported he did not report the incident immediately because he wanted to investigate a little before police arrived. Officers said the man is known to the caller from around the neighborhood.
