iPod Battery guide for your iPod Nano

By James Logan

iPod battery life is an issue to most iPod users. Once an iPod battery wears out, it is not easily changed by users. This contention has merit, because, although the iPod battery can be recharged hundreds of times, it does lose power over a period of time.

When that happens, although it is possible for users to change the iPod battery themselves, many people don't want to risk damaging their iPod Nano 8GB. This made some users to wonder if the iPod Nano 8GB was intended as a disposable MP3 player? No. Users expect the iPod Nano 8GB to last a long time.

The lifespan of the iPod battery is only a few years, as it is lithium based. This nets the user hundreds of charges; however, at some point, the lithium battery will stop working. Users who think they can simply open the iPod Nano 8GB case and remove and change the battery will be disappointed.

When Apple designed the iPod Nano 8GB, they integrated the battery into the devices circuitry. The situation this dilemma created caused untold frustration to iPod Nano 8GB users, who were quickly offered an alternative by 3rd party manufacturers who agreed to either replace the iPod battery or sell users a do it yourself kit. Some users would prefer not to mess with changing the iPod battery and instead, ship their iPod Nano 8GB to Apple for replacement.

In addition, Apple offers users tips on their website on how to maintain their iPod battery. Want to make your iPod battery last longer? Read on: An iPod battery functions at its optimal when the iPod Nano 8GB is kept at room temperature.

Don't leave your iPod Nano 8GB inside a car. Never expose your iPod Nano 8GB to direct sunlight as this can damage the iPod. When not in use, press the Pause or Hold button. Any time you are not using your iPod Nano 8GB, slide the button into the Hold position.

Your iPod will continue to play if the hold button is not engaged. This can significantly impact the life of your iPod battery. When the room is well lit, you do not need back lighting.

Back lighting can use up a lot of your reserved battery power. If you don't absolutely need it, turn it off. You can do this by selecting Settings then Back light Timer, then Off. Even when you are not using your iPod Nano 8GB, the battery power is slowly draining.

A small amount of battery power is still being used, even when your iPod is asleep. While you will not be able to stop the draining of your iPod battery, you can slow it down by storing your iPod at room temperature. Taking this one step will maximize the use of your iPod battery.
