QR codes make it easy for buyers to see the inside of the home from their smartphone

TAMPA, Fla. - You've seen them in magazines, newspapers, even on gum packs. Now, QR codes are popping up on real estate signs in Tampa Bay.
The "Quick Response" codes are the latest tech tool for consumers to get easy access to information.
It's as simple as taking a picture with your phone. You can download a free app that allows you to scan the QR codes and then connect you with information about the item you're looking for. In this case, a house, making your next viewing a smartphone scan away.
It's a new way for Linda Nowicke to show a home. She's giving potential buyers a chance to see the inside from the outside."A person standing at the curb can go through the photos and decide whether this is a home they'd like to see," says Nowicke.
She's one of 30 realtors in the Bay area using QR codes. She says the new technology is the perfect trend for the real estate industry.
Here's how it works: From any smartphone, using a QR codes app, customers can walk up to the sign, scan the code and instantly have access to the MLS.
"It brings up all 12 photos in the MLS. You can scan through them. You can click for more information and get highlights of the listing," says Nowicke.
If you're interested in the home, that's also easy. It's just one click away.
"Then you can click 'Text the Realtor,' you can click 'Request a Showing,' right from your phone," says Nowicke.
The code doesn't just give you information on one home; it finds 100 homes closest to the property.
"The consumer can screen through and it tells you how far away you are from that home to this one," says Nowicke.
Linda hasn't seen feedback yet, but she's confident that simple scan will open the door to many home sales.
"As people become more aware of QR codes, I think it'll be a wave of the future."
The QR Codes are also very economical. Nowicke says it's cheaper to buy the signs than it is to spend money on making "take one" flyers and the gas to drive them to each house.
