Deputies Make Arrests In Home Invasion

By Cami Marshall
Sophia, NC -- The Randolph County Sheriff's Office reported the arrest of the fourth out of five people charged in connection with a home invasion and armed robbery in Sophia on January 16th, 2012.
On that night, two men forced open the door of the victim's home on  US Hwy 311. One subject grabbed the victim by the throat and demanded money while holding a gun to the victim's head. Another subject punched a second victim in the face, pushed them to the floor and told them not to look at the two male subjects. After locating the first victim's pocketbook and removing money from it, the two subjects fled the residence in a grey car and headed north on Hwy 311 toward High Point. Before leaving, one of the subjects ripped the telephone out of the wall, taking it with him.

Based on reliable information, Randolph County Deputies and Detectives went to the address of Tasha (Natasha) Smith, the cousin of one of the victims. There, they found a grey Honda Civic in the driveway. Inside the vehicle in plain sight were the stolen pocketbook, sunglasses, cell phone and home phone that had been stolen from the victim less than an hour earlier.
At least four of the five subjects listed above were located inside Smith's residence, although Smith initially hid herself in a crawlspace until she was coaxed out by deputies. Initial and subsequent interviews with the suspected subjects resulted in a full confession by Smith in which she implicated the other four subjects in the plan to rob her cousin.
Jason Andrew (Drew) Routh was arrested this afternoon on charges of Assault inflicting serious bodily injury, felony possession of stolen goods, felony conspiracy, first degree burglary, larceny after breaking & entering, and first degree kidnapping. He's currently confined in the Randolph County Jail under a $750,000 bond.
The following subjects were previously charged and arrested for their participation in the incident:
