As A Hobby Painting Can Be Soothing!...

By Anna Meenaghan

So many people are in awe of people who can paint and draw. They think that others make it look so easy and that they probably are just naturally artistic. They would love to try but do not know where to begin.

Many do not need bolstering up to get started, and are naturally keen. Progressing quickly. For perfectionists they may not be so enthused and get easily disheartened with their first results.

Starting in one medium and as you get more daring dabble in many others. This should not be a trial; you have to learn to enjoy it. At times you will find it quite frustrating, but both illuminating and fascinating your final result. Above all you can get a great deal of satisfaction from your work.

Really we all need to make time for any hobby. This usually is something you can do to switch off if you like from our everyday stresses and strains. We can all do with a bit of time to ourselves. In this day and age this time is often hard to find but if we can it is really beneficial. A quiet place is ideal where you forget all about the time.

Hobbies too are sometimes a marvelous way of making new friends, together with learning something at the same time. Many of us just take up a hobby in the winter to fill the dark nights. As for new friends this is a very good way of getting to know people particularly if you are new to an area. Local classes abound both in the daytime and the evening, and they are often quite social. A good teacher is an asset; you have ready help and advice at hand, and other people to converse with.

From time you to time you will find yourself wandering round art galleries looking at various types of work by other artists. Usually artists probably bend towards a certain type of subject. You may see a whole collection of portraits (hard to do), or still life or coastal scenes.

Our general creativity is normally affected by our moods, so everything may come out in our painting. It is amazing what transpires if you let your imagination and emotions run free. You may prefer to just paint impromptu on site, or may be copy a subject of your choice. Generally it may help to do more than one painting at a given time.

People draw and paint with so many different things these days. The range is endless with so many varied products on the market, with a variable price bracket. Water colors, acrylics, pastels, pens, inks, crayons to name a few. People may not think to begin with oils which have a distinct advantage as if you do not like your creation, it can be reworked by removing the paint and redoing it.

Enjoy painting with oils but you do need to bear in mind they take quite sometime to dry and can gather dust in the process. Canvas you will find is great for acrylics as it dries fairly fast. Bright colors stretch across it making it fun yet totally satisfying.

What do I like about them? Well, firstly their drying qualities, plus the fact that you can use them directly from the tube as well as the palette. Even better they are more or less ready to hang on the wall, so you can give them to anyone.
