India Holidays, Visit Magical Goa, The Pearl Of The Orient

By Veronica Mayles

Have you ever thought of holidaying in India, many people have, but it is a very far land and can be strange as well as completely different. If you are the adventurous type, India holidays could be perfect for you.

This is a spell binding sub-continent, filled with diversity, mystery, ancient civilization and wide-spread beauty. Eco systems are so diverse that you find the Himalayan mountains, western deserts, southern evergreen forests, and all types of different terrain. India is also the home of the "pearl of the orient", Goa.

Goa is also a travelers' paradise and some people believe that it is the best part of the Indian peninsula. This is saying something as the Indian peninsula is 6 700 km long. Goa encompasses some of the most breathtaking natural beauty. Beautiful sea, long, golden sandy beaches, lush forested hills, essentially a tropical paradise!

The Portuguese like to claim that they discovered Goa, and perhaps they did for the western world, but before Portuguese explorers came to Goa, there were naturalized peoples living there. Anyhow these intrepid explorers liked Goa so much they colonized it and they spent 450 years ruling it, so Mediterranean culture mingles alongside Indian culture and this makes it unique.

It looks very Mediterranean with its narrow streets and tiled red roofs, but when you taste the food you will know that you are in India. The vindaloos, curries, and tandoori are delicious, but if you fancy Portuguese fare, try the Goan chourisso, you won't find better.

The Goans are experts in the hospitality industry, you won't find better service anywhere. Also, if you go, make sure you try the locally made port wine and a drink called feni. This is made from cashew and coconut and not many people know that the cashew has a fruit which can make a drink. They also make this drink in Brazil, but this is not so strange as both coconut and cashew grow in Brazil and after all the Portuguese also colonized this country.
