Dodgers Acquire Thome and Garland

By Quinn Balarian

Very recently, the Los Angeles Los angeles dodgers had the greatest record in baseball and not a soul could question they happened to be the greatest franchise in the entire league. They might bat, pitch and defend. They maintained depth and were young and thirsty.

A few weeks after, and the LA Dodgers are limping into the home stretch. They aim hurt and are no more the much-loved team to bring home the championship. They previously had been a balanced franchise. Presently, they are more like a team composed of run of the mill athletes.

That is why the team picked up Jim Thome and Jon Garland off of waivers. While each of the athletes won't bestow them with a rescue, both athletes will supply the Dodgers with experienced role players who must rejuvenate the franchise for the playoffs.

What must a franchise do if they is unable to acquire an additional superstar player? They satisfy their depth and wish that one of their supporting teammates will rise to the occasion. It's precisely what the struggling Dodgers decided to do when they added Jim Thome and Garland.

Neither competitor will be a full-time starter come the post-season. Yet each should make the Los angeles dodgers an enhanced franchise and should supply a spark for them when required.

Thome is essentially a lefty source of power off the bench who could additionally get on base. He cannot play first base like he did back in his hey day. However he does have the skill to hit clutch homers like Matt Stairs did for the World Series champion Phillies last year.

Now, the Los angeles dodgers have registered only 114 homers and place 12th in the National league and 24th in professional baseball. Their present first baseman, James Loney, has hit only nine home runs the entire year. Thome had his ninth homer on June 1. The Los Angeles Dodgers are a little baseball club. That won't be different with Thome offering his services off the bench, although he will bring them needed brawn.

In conclusion, some decent enhancements for a reasonable contender.
