How Ergonomic Office Furniture Design Affects The Performance Of Your Employees

Office furniture forms an indispensable part of the office interior, and it should be in harmony with the office design. At the same time it must be ergonomic such that when put in use for long durations, it does not cause any damage to the user's health.

More than one third of an ordinary employee's day is spent in the office, and if the office furniture results in his discomfort and body ache, then it may create serious threat to his health. Thus it is crucial for employers to make sure that office furniture, especially office chairs, are designed to enhance employees' comfort.

There are a few key features to look for when purchasing office chairs. You must ensure that the chosen office chairs are stable, easily movable and optimally adjustable. Employees must be able to comfortably place their hands on the arm rests and be able to fix the seat height according to their convenience. The chair must not pose any obstruction for the occupant in terms of movement of hands and legs, as that might negatively impact his efficiency. The back support is the most critical component of an office chair. It must be appropriately padded and tilted to give the occupant a relaxed experience without any stress on his back and spine.

Office desks are the second most crucial office furniture items after office chairs. The desk should neither be too elevated nor too low, and must offer ample space to the employee to carry out jobs both on his computer and with his office files. Small office desks are very uncomfortable and force the worker to take awkward sitting postures that may result in painful cramps and back pain.

The positioning of office furniture also plays a crucial role in the overall ergonomic setting of the office. Workstations should have enough space in between so that employees can move or carry objects easily without bothering a worker sitting at his workstation.

Good office ergonomics ensure not only a healthy workforce but a happier and more efficient one as well. An ergonomic workplace fosters better work management and organization among staff and also makes work a relaxed and pleasant experience for them.

Office design must always aim at complete non-existence of any physical discomfort inside the office, or at least decreasing it to a bare minimum. The office interior should facilitate healthy working environment where an employee can go about his or her work without facing any troubles, so that his role in the success of the organization can be maximized.
