Designer Clothes Shop Holds Trunk Sales

By Shannon Sullivan

The global economic recession has put a big dent in everyone's pocketbook, and that includes the portfolios of the very wealthy. That means that many fashionable ladies, rather than giving their designer clothes directly to charity, are opting to recoup some of their wardrobe investment by selling their outfits through a resale designer clothes shop.

It might be hard to believe, but that gorgeous fashionista at work you envy is probably someone who has found a resale designer clothing shop or website. You can have the same fabulous designer labels and looks at lower prices if you're willing to make the effort to search for bargains.

Here's where the Internet has become a real boon for bargain hunters. In fact, there are probably thousands of designer clothing shops who post their wares on the web. The problem is that you can't try on those lovely photos of designer duds. Unless you wear a standard size - and even sometimes then - you'll probably want to try it before you buy it, even if you can realize a minimum of 40 percent to as much as 80 percent off retail prices.

The best consignment designer clothes shops usually print the discount schedule on the price ticket, so you can calculate whether you want to risk having it snatched up by someone else while you wait for the price to come down.

Be sure to look for nearby shopping centers containing outlets for your favorite designers. That's where you'll be more likely to find a designer clothes shop with big bargains, anywhere from 40 to 80 percent off. If there's such a place within, say, a two-hour drive of your home, it can be worth the effort to spend a day combing the designer outlet shops for yourself or your family.

If that kind of gambling makes you nervous, especially when you're dying for a designer outfit you saw on your favorite show, then a better strategy for you might be to scope out bargains at a designer clothes store in a nearby outlet mall. If the outlet shopping center is two hours or less away from you, the drive will certainly be worth your time if you can get the designer clothes you love.

Before you turn the key in the ignition, however, make a couple of telephone calls to the designer clothes shops on your list. Not all consignment shops are created equal, so ask some pertinent questions about what designers they carry. Don't waste your time at a shop that doesn't have what you want. If they do have some of your favor designer labels, however, you can realize from 50 to 75 percent off retail for designer clothes that have been worn one time to the charity luncheon.

Finally, watch for designer trunk or sample sales. If your size and body type falls into the model range, you may strike designer clothing gold.
