Furniture store fund-raiser aids team, Make-A-Wish

Today's Subject: Home Interior Warehouse, a furniture and home accessories retailer in Walled Lake, hosts a Wine, Dine & Design fund-raiser to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan and Team Alex.
THE CAUSE: Team Alex was formed by cyclist Beth Brandvain and friends in 1999 to honor the memory of Alex Graham, a woman who died from bone cancer at age 17. Team Alex participates in Wish-A-Mile, a 300-mile, three-day bike tour that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Michigan, which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Team Alex is one of the largest Wish-A-Mile teams and has raised more than $1 million over the past decade.
BACKGROUND: Jackie Schwartz, owner of Home Interior Warehouse, joined with Brandvain to raise money for Make-A-Wish and Team Alex. In addition to donating a portion of her annual spring sale's proceeds, Schwartz will be hosting the Wine, Dine & Design event at the 17,000-square-foot showroom.
RESULTS: Home Interior Warehouse's spring storewide sale kickoff and Wine, Dine & Design fund-raiser is 6-9 p.m. Thursday. Tickets can be purchased for $15 in advance and $20 at the door. All of the ticket sales benefit Team Alex and Make-A-Wish.
"Being able to support a group like Team Alex, who has done so much for Make-A-Wish, is the perfect way for me to give back. As a mother who knows the pain of losing a child, I feel Make-A-Wish is so deserving of all of our help," Schwartz said.
