Is The Sansa Fuze Better Than Ipod?

The name Ipod has become the standard in MP3 players. Ipod is now the thing we associate portable music with. Sometimes, we want something different. Sandisk (the company that owns Sansa) delivers just that with the Sansa Fuze. I would say that it is the direct competitor to the Ipod Nano. It's about the same size and it costs about the same at some places cheaper. So why Sansa's Fuze if Apple's Ipod is the standard? Well for one, competition is good for the market. Competition drives prices down and it forces manufacturers to adhere to a higher quality. Another thing I am sick of is following what's "in". Be different people! Don't be a mindless sheep. Do our part and improve our standard of living.

I have my girlfriend's Ipod Nano right here to compare with my Sansa Fuze! The Ipod Nano is thinner and is slightly longer than the Fuze. The Nano is also slightly lighter than the Fuze. The screen on the Sansa is larger. It looks almost twice as big. The Nano feels very slick and smooth. The Fuze seem to have a glossy coating on the front face and a "rubberized" backside for added grip. It feels good. It does not look or feel cheap. Both the Nano and the Fuze are well made and they feel like high quality MP3 Players.

My girlfriend's Nano holds 2 GB of songs. There is no option to add extra storage. My Fuze holds 8 GB of music. I purchased the high end Fuze. They have a standard 4 GB Fuze. My Fuze has a Micro SD slot that I took advantage of and added an 8 GB micro card making for a total of 16 GB or music storage. I believe the highest micro SD card I have seen was 16 GB but that was too expensive for me. The Fuze with the extra card cost me about $130. About $100 for the Fuze and $25 for the card, with tax of course. I am not sure how much the Nano cost as my girlfriend got it for Christmas. I suspect it cost about the same but I could be off as it is an older generation of the Nano.

I have listened to many MP3 Players. I have experienced Archos, Iriver, Creative Zen, Phillips, and of course, Ipod and Sansa. I can say without a doubt that the Sansa Fuze has the highest sound quality of them all. The Ipod sounds good and their headphones are awesome. Their headphones supposedly use rare earth metals and are of higher quality and I don't doubt it. The headphones that came with the Fuze are okay. I would not say they are cheap but they are definitely not as good as the Ipod's headphones. Headphones can be replaced though. I suggest yo to get a good pair of headphones that cover your ear and you will be blown away by the sound quality of the Fuze or any other MP3 players. From the Fuse, he treble is very crisp and the bass thumps well.

I'll tell you straight up that the Fuze wins here. The Fuze can show pictures, video(must be converted), and has a microphone in case you need to record... I don't know, your ex-wife admitting she lied in court? Anyways, the feature is there if you need it. To be honest, this is a moot point. I don't really care too much about this. While it's nice to have lots of features, we are reviewing and comparing Mp3 players, not video, sound recorders.

This is what sold me. I love the sound quality of the Fuze but the community is with the Ipod. The problem I have, and always had with Ipods is that it is really locked down. What do I mean by this? Itunes and transferring music. Syncing. If you have ever used an Ipod, you know what I mean. I guess syncing and Itunes help prevent pirated music but that does not benefit me, the end user. I want to be able to drag and drop music the my Fuze and I can. I can't do that with the Ipod. At least I don't know how. Either way, I don't want to bother with it. Drag. Drop. And play. That's what I want and that's what I like.

Another thing that has not happened yet but might is this incredible open source firmware called "Rockbox". This firmware is an open source project that aims to improve the original. There is one available for the Nano I believe but currently is not available for the Fuze. Hopefully it will be in the near future. Somewhat of a side track but it's good to keep an eye out for. I used to own and old 20 GB Archos and I installed Rockbox onto it and it was amazing. Made the MP3 player 10 times better. If a Rockbox is released for the Fuze, it could be a serious player that will be sure to take a huge market share from Apple.

I love my Fuze. The firmware can be a little slow sometimes as it does not respond immediately to my actions of the scroll wheel. The Ipod on the other hand is fast all the time. However, I spend most of my time with the Fuze listening to music and not playing around with the interface. I like the interface of the Nano better but it's still crap compared to a Rockbox firmware. I believe it is out for the Nano but the Nano is not mine so I can't mod it :( Overall, if you are looking for an alternative in MP3 Players. The Sansa Fuze is great. The Sansa line is great itself. The sound quality is top of the line. They have set a new standard in my opinion. When you listen to this thing, you'll be amazed that you little Fuze only cost you about 90 bucks. Granted my package cost $130 and I have 16 GB of storage! I don't think I will fill that space any time soon. The Nano and its 2 GB of storage caused my girlfriend to occasionally "replace" and make room for some songs. Set it and forget it. I like that. Oh, and I saw the Fuze for sale at Radioshack and a Target the other day. Check it out. Some Radioshacks have a store model that you can try out. Highly recommended.

Yoga Music For Meditation Series - 12 Tips To Attain An Incredible Meditation Practice

a) What Is Meditation

1. Understand meditation! Meditation is the flow of continuous thought on one thing. Meditation is the keeping up of one idea alone like the continuous flow of oil. Yogins call this Dhyana. Bhaktas call this adoration.

Concentration is to fix the mind on a point or an object, either internal as in the body or external (eg an image). Meditation is a natural outcome of concentration. In Dhyana the normal thoughts are closed of from the mind and the mind becomes saturated with Divine thoughts and presence.

(b) Find A Place

2. Have a room solely dedicated to meditation and do not allow anybody to enter. This keeps it holy and sanctified. Burn incense in the mornings and evenings and keep an icon of God or your Guru placing your chair in front. Keeping spiritual literature in the room is also good and will raise the resonance level of the room.

In deep meditation the vibrations produces will lodge themselves into the ether of the room. After six months you will feel deeply in peace in the atmosphere of the room. Whenever you feel your mind agitated or disturbed you can sit in the room and repeat a mantra for half an hour. You will feel an immediate change within your being.

Practice and feel the soothing spiritual influence it will have on yourself. Nothing compares to spiritual Sadhana. It will create a sacred place in your own house.

3. Solitude and intense meditation are two important requirements for Self-realization. A place of pilgrimage, a Himalayan scenery, a lovely flower-garden, a sacred temple, these are the places which elevate the mind for concentration and meditation. Use them when necessary.

4. Find a cool place with a mild climate. This is a must for concentration. As salt melts in water so too will the Sattvic (pure) mind melt in the silence that is brought by meditation with the Absolute.

(c) Time

5. Get up at 4 in the morning (the hour of Brahmamuhurta). It is very favourable for spiritual contemplation and devotional practices. Early in the morning the mind is calm, pure and quite refreshed after sleep. The mind is like a blank sheet of paper and comparatively free from worldly Samskaras (mental impressions).

It can be moulded very easily at this time. The atmosphere also is charged with more Sattva (purity, light) at this particular time. Wash your hands, feet and face with cold water if you find it difficult to take a bath. This will suffice.

6. Always choose the part of the day or night when your mind is clear and when you are least likely to be disturbed. The mind will be calmer and more malleable at this time.

7. Meditate on Sundays as the mind is more at ease on holidays. You will also find that your meditation improves if you only drink milk and eat fruit. Also fasting helps tremendously in the attainment of focused meditation.

(d) Place of Concentration

8. Concentrate gently either on the lotus of the heart (Anahata Chakra) or in the space between the two eyebrows (Trikuti). Close your eyes.

9. The mind is placed in Ajna Chakra in Trikuti. The mind is easily tamed by focusing on Trikuti. Devotional types (Bhaktas) should focus in the heart area and yogis should concentrate on Ajna Chakra.

10. Sahasrara at the crown of the head is another great place to focus. Vedantins concentrate here. Some yogis focus on the tip of their noses (a technique called Nasikagra Drishti). Stay with one place of focus and cling to it perseverantly.

If you decide to concentrate on the heart area, stay with it and don't change it. If you are a devotional type you can let your guru find the center you should focus upon, else you can find it yourself.

(e) What to eat

11. Keep your diet pure and light. To fill up the stomach with rice, bread and vegetables will make you very sleepy and will interfere with your sadhana. A diet of milk keeps the body light, pure and alert.

By following these guidelines you will find yourself being able to sit at ease in yoga positions for long periods of time, up til hours. If you feel weak though, you can take some milk and rice. Those with an intense program of keeping lectures and other spiritual activities should have a solid diet though.

(f) Yoga Positions

12. The body is stabilized through the practice of yoga positions (Asanas). The mind is strengthened through inner attitudes (Mudra) and contractions (Bandhas). The body will feel lighter after the practising breathing exercises (Pranayama). Once you can do these things with ease your mind can fix itself upon the Absolute and you will attain states of uplifted bliss and euphoria.

For meditation, concentration and Japa (verbal repetition of a mantra), Padmasana (the lotus position) or Siddhasana (the perfect position) are highly recommended. For your general health and to help you maintain Brahmacharya; Brahmacharyasana, Shirshasana, Sarvangasana, Matsyasana and Paschimottanasana are very useful.

There are a lot of hilarious moments in this part when they meet all kinds of people from meeting arguing brothers to a son sacrificing father and their journey culminates in the horrific city of Sodom wherein they must rescue their love interests.

The real plot of the Year one movie begins when Zed eats a forbidden fruit and is therefore made to leave the tribe and fend for himself and Oh joins him. Their trials and tribulations during their travels make up the rest of the movie. Their travels take them to different places and make them meet all sorts of people. The evil and terrible city of Sodom is the last destination in their journey and it is in here that they must save their lovers from danger.

Jack Black carries the entire Year One movie on his sturdy shoulders and there is something so cryptic, yet satisfying about him. His impeccable style will by no means be matched. This style of his is very unique but it is entertainment at its best. His lines can make a toddler or a playwright howl with laughter.

Not only does Black do a fabulous job in the movie, his more than able co-stars Cera, June and Eema also act wonderfully. Both June and Black complement each other to the T. Other notable actors include Oliver Platt, Vinnie Jones and many others. The screenwriters of the Year One movie are from the hugely successful sitcom, The Office and it is no wonder that they deliver yet again.
