Washington Redskins Rely on Jason Campbell

By Chad Curtway

Which version of Jason Campbell is it Redskins NFL lovers should anticipate this year? The qb that is disliked and practically out of town? Or might he be the next coming of Doug Williams, as Clinton Portis had so eloquently stated lately?

His performance is what the coming year is all going to revolve around. Clinton Portis could end this season with over 11000 yards rushing through his career, aligning himself for Hall of Fame consideration with about three or four good years left in his playing days.

It will not matter.

Malcolm Kelly could prove to be among the elite young receivers in the game of football this year, capable of drawing comparisons to Andre Johnson and Calvin Johnson by year's end.

It won't make a difference.

Brian Orakpo could be the second coming of Lawrence Taylor, doing damage on the weak side of the whole NFC East division.

It won't matter.

All that makes a difference is that the team wins a minimum of ten contests, and that their quarterback is the most important individual in each one of those projected ten wins.

Never mind the reality that he played half a season in 2008 devoid of an INT, it was all revolving around the amazing Clinton Portis during that span. When things went sour for the franchise, it was not Clinton Portis who got the criticism.

It was Campbell, who wasn't the only Redskin with lessened output in the course of the blackout, however was the only receiver of the tabloid radio and newspaper drama that followed.

Most people are in Jason Campbell's defense, and not a soul leads up that corner's praise louder than me.

Although from a neutral standpoint, there is a fine line between magnificence and failure for Campbell this forthcoming season, and nothing else Washington may do or is capable of doing will eclipse the steadiness he needs to show from week one and after.
