Urban Interns Reports Growth In Demand For Technology, Financial and SEO Skills

Urban Interns, a national marketplace that connects growing companies with people seeking part time jobs and internships, reports that from January to February 2011, employers increased their demand for interns and part-time employees with the following skills: web development, web design, financial analysis, bookkeeping, and search engine optimization ("SEO"). The company saw triple-digit increases in demand for each of those skills. Urban Interns also reports that in terms of top jobs sought, these are exactly the same categories of growth.
The top growth categories for job skills from January to February 2011 were as follows:
Skill    Growth                 % in Jobs Posted
         Financial Analysis                 500%
         Web Design                          320%
         Web Development                300%
         Bookkeeping                         300%
         SEO                                     200%

Interestingly, these were also the top growth categories in terms of job seeker skill sets. The data is collected from jobs and job seeker profiles posted on Urban Interns(1).
"This is the first time in our history that we have seen employers searching for exactly the same things that job seekers are searching for," said Urban Interns Co-Founder Cari Sommer. "This is highly encouraging on both sides. As a job seeker, you may have a better chance of landing a job or internship, and as an employer, you may have a better chance of finding the perfect fit for your business."
"The fact that all of these in-demand skills are highly specialized and require specific training - technology for web development, creative arts for web design, keyword analysis for SEO - is interesting as well," continued Urban Interns Co-Founder Lauren Porat. "This data strongly points to one of two things: 1) that employers are looking for people who can jump in and help out with minimal-to-no on-the-job training, or 2) employers who have those skill sets already in-house are looking to supplement their efforts by growing their team of part-time employees and interns."
Urban Interns reports that hiring in sales, graphic design, consumer research, client relations, and social media continued to grow in February. This data indicates the trend of hiring part-time help and interns to support internal efforts to establish marketing and brand presence also continued throughout February.
