Home improvements to add value to your home

Many people these days put a lot of time, effort, and money into improving their homes. Some decide to make improvements simply to improve their quality of life when at home, whereas others make improvements with a view to improving the value of their property.
There are many different improvements that people make when it comes to their properties, and the right improvements can make a big difference to the value of your home. However, it is important to know which improvements are going to be of most benefit when it comes to increasing the value of the home. Some of these include:
One of the best improvements that you can make to your home if you want to add value is a loft conversion. This is a great way to add a fair amount of value to the home, with the average increase that this adds being in the region of just over £20,000. This reflects an increase of over 54 percent compared to 2009.
If you add a room extension to your home this will also provide you with more space within the property and will add a nice amount in terms of value to your home. The average amount of value a room extension will add to your home is in the region of £16,000.
Some people decide to add a conservatory to the home and this is another good way to add additional space and create a nice space to enjoy the sun in the summer. In terms of adding value to your home the average amount that is added by a conservatory is around £8,200.
When it comes to decorating a property you can still add value to your home, with the average addition from redecoration coming in at around £3229. However, in some cases redecoration may not actually add any value to the home at all according to around 35 percent of valuers. It is also worth remembering that decor is a matter of personal taste and the decor that appeals to you may not appeal to prospective buyers. It is therefore best to keep colours neutral if you are planning to put the property up for sale. One official said that many people would be making improvements to their home during the warmer season simply to enjoy a more desirable space to live in. He said: 'Householders should primarily do the work with the aim of creating a home they can live in and enjoy as there is no guarantee of increasing property value.'
