Advice On Organising A Memorable Stag Event

By Mariko Conisuellian

The task of organising a stag party is, on the one hand an honour, while on the other a chore. It is a responsibility as all the guests will remember a bad stag party for much longer than a good one.

There are several areas of planning that need to be taken into account when preparing the stag party; first of all, you should decide how long it will be. Recently it has become increasingly popular to have the party stretch across a weekend or at least a full day of activities, food, drink and whatever else you can think of.

It is important to confirm the budget with all members of the group before final planning commences as you want everyone to fully enjoy themselves and not be spending amounts that more than they feel comfortable spending.

Once you have an idea of budget you can start looking at venues and activities. It is always a good idea to choose an activity that everyone can join in with, young, old etc. This can limit the choices but it will make for a better day for all if you think about the party as a whole.

You want to try to find a venue that is close to some nightlife, as well as other activities too. That way you can plan activities for Saturday, have a night out, stay in a local hotel and then have another activity planned for the Sunday. You want to plan any dangerous or driving activities for the Saturday leaving the Sunday and your hangovers free to relax with something more gentle on the Sunday.

Preferably you would use a venue that runs several activities in one location, making the overall organisation much easier because you will only need to talk with one venue. Also, a multi-activity venue such as this is likely to have connections with local hotels, clubs and restaurants etc. simplifying your search dramatically.

To give an underlying theme to the whole weekend and you're not just stringing together a load of random activities, it is a good idea to have a light competition running throughout the events. This competition will need to be arranged so that everyone in the party has an equal chance of winning. A good way to achieve this is to somehow handicap the people who you know are good at certain events to allow the newbies to play with equal ability. This will create a positive and friendly atmosphere even among the guests who don't know each other all that well.

It is also worth considering that as the average age for getting married rises, so the relative athleticism decreases so you may well have many people in their prime as well as some older less mobile guests, for this reason it is important to choose activities that everyone can take part in, as the weekend will be far more successful.

It is difficult to decide between activities that will be really enjoyable to a few people and those that everyone will enjoy equally, however it is worth spending the time on making those decisions in order to organise a great stag event that is thoroughly enjoyed by all. Something else to consider is that the evening events should probably be split up for the sake of the older group members so that they can eat with the rest of the group, but then are free to depart if they want when the younger guests move on to a night club.
