Rich make money by exploiting poor

By Ronald Reaume, The Windsor Star
I read Mr. Vander Doelen's column on Saturday, Nov. 26, and shook my head. He is missing the big picture.
All the evidence says since 1980, the gap between the wealthy and the middle class continues to grow wider and wider. Wasn't the exact opposite supposed to happen?
This is what the baby boom generation was promised. So how did this happen?
It was simple. The middle class was scammed by the big corporations and the wealthy. By the '80s, the wealthy said yes to the unions' and civil right activists' demand for equality, rights, fair wages and benefits.
Then, behind everyone's back, they shipped much of their production to the sweat shops of Asia.
On paper, the corporations made it appear they had adopted the principles of the human rights movement. In reality, it was a brilliant scam to deceive us so that they could make their fortunes and then blame the unions when it fell apart.
This is what happened in the 2008-09 great recession. The global corporations and the wealthy, aided by our governments, protected their fortunes by blaming the unions and the middle class.
Something is wrong. How can we believe the wealthy and our governments when while they promote equality and equity, behind our backs they make their fortunes by doing the exact opposite?
The reason the rich have so much is because they have exploited the poor in Asia not only to create great wealth for themselves but also to destroy the middle class at home.
When unions are blamed for our current economic situation, this is a sign how successful the wealthy have scammed the general population. What the large corporations and the wealthy have done to the middle class may be the greatest ponzi scheme ever.
