Arizona Attorney General warns about home rental scams

PHOENIX - The upcoming Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Phoenix is offering many Valley homeowners an opportunity to make money if they want to rent their homes.
"If you have the right size and location you can have premium price," said realtor Jacqueline Levy with The MacLean Team of Realty Executives.
Levy said that in these types of situations her listings for rentals have fallen victim to scammers who essentially steal the information in the listing and post fake ads.
"They email and try to tell people that they live out of the country and try to get them to send deposits to them claiming they will in turn send the keys," she explained.
She said it has happened to her and other members of her team and it is often confusing for legitimate clients.
Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne is warning about another potential scam focusing on the person who is putting their home up for rent.
Horne recently issued a cease and desist order against "Your Stay Accomodations" operating out of Phoenix. The company he said is not licensed and was offering to lease consumers homes for an advanced fee of nearly $1,500.
Horne encourages anyone suspicious of a possible fraud to file a complaint with his office.
You can contact the Consumer Information and Complaints unit at 602-542-5763, 520-628-6504 or 800-352-8431 or file the complaint online on the Attorney General's website.
